O relacjach

O relacjach

Author(s): Grzegorz Pawłowski / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

The interest of linguists in research findings from various fields of humanities and natural sciences is not waning. It has increased in recent years, inter alia, as a result of new ministerial regulations providing opportunities for more flexible evaluation of researchers and academic units. However, this interest stems primarily from the subject of linguistics itself. Linguists, having as their subject the linguistic and communicative properties of humans, cannot do without systematically following the results and research methods applied by the representatives of even those disciplines that only marginally take into account human beings, their genesis, nature, goals, or social functions. The interdisciplinary research involved here is simply natural for contemporary linguists. It is not easy to comprehensively present the initiatives resulting from such research in a single publication. The content of this work deals primarily with research that enjoys full acceptance in contemporary linguistic discourse. It is also full of innovative reflections on a number of relationships conceivable between linguistics and other sciences. These relationships are dealt with by the authors in the subject areas they have outlined.

Terminologia a relacje interdyscyplinarne

Terminologia a relacje interdyscyplinarne

Author(s): Piotr Nagórka / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

Terminology is a (sub)discipline of linguistics. Its representatives study humans in terms of their cognitive and communicative qualities based on the products of their individual cultures. Terminology relies on making discoveries, which enable capturing the state of professional knowledge in any field of activity at a given time. Terminology can also be viewed as a field of activity responsible for introducing conceptual order, and thus facilitating communication between professionals while ensuring their sustainable progress. Like any other scientific field, terminology also has an essential metacomponent incorporated into its scientific constitution, based on self-reflection, which leads to questions concerning its status and functions. The research question centres around the status of terminology relative to other fields of intellectual activity. The subject matter of the present research is represented not only by terminologists, but also by the field’s proponents representing other domains and disciplines, as well as groups of professionals to whom terminological work is adressed. The research has been conducted in the framework of terminology in its metacognitive aspect. The aim of this study is to present the model of interactions between the terminologist and representatives of other field of intellectual activity. The method of this metacognitive work is the same as in the case of terminological work oriented to its subject proper. An adequate response to the research query requires that the scientific work cover both qualitative and quantitative aspects. The results of metacognitive analyses indicate that terminological work is characterised by both constitutive relationships (receptive in character) and facultative relationships (productive in character).

Polska nauka o translacji – stan obecny i perspektywy rozwoju dyscypliny

Polska nauka o translacji – stan obecny i perspektywy rozwoju dyscypliny

Author(s): Anna Małgorzewicz / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

The author of the paper describes the current stage of Polish translation science – characterized by subdisciplinary divisions – in order to point out some possible development trends that could change it into an autonomous and complementary organized discipline. The conclusions are drawn on the basis of interpreting data that can be found at the portal Nauka Polska (Polish Science), in the POL-on database which gathers data on Polish science and higher education, in the lists of scientific journals published by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, in academic journals index ERIH PLUS, and on websites of chosen scientific journals. Many errors can be noticed in the way Polish scientists classify their research and define themselves as researchers. They result from lacking disciplinary systematization of existing paradigms as well as from the fact that there is no adequate and coherent terminology. The paper concludes with ideas which should make it possible to put an end to multidisciplinary nature of translation science and to make room for inter- and transdisciplinary approach.

Prawo do języka i prawo do sądu

Prawo do języka i prawo do sądu

Author(s): Joanna Osiejewicz / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

The right to court is an individual, entity-oriented right that is the basic guarantee for the implementation of other subjective rights. This right implies the state’s obligation to organize justice in such a way as to ensure effective legal protection for those entitled. In the case of persons who do not speak the language of the court proceedings of which they are a participant, a key element in the exercise of access to the court is a suitably qualified translator who provides appropriate quality assistance. In a special situation here are persons belonging to the language minorities of the state in which the proceedings are pending. International law cares for language rights from the perspective of the protection of national minorities and indigenous peoples. The issue of the importance of linguistic diversity has long been an important factor determining European integration. The aim of the article is to discuss international and European legal regulations ensuring the right to use the language and the right to court in the European Union. Next, the article indicates the special possibilities of using the corps made up of judgments of the Court of Justice of the EU in training translators as guarantors of the effectiveness of the right to language and the right to court.

Interdyscyplinarne pomosty między językoznawstwem a prawem w lingwistyce kryminalistycznej

Author(s): Monika Zaśko-Zielińska / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

This article addresses the issue of evidential analysis in forensic linguistics, focusing on its interdisciplinary aspects. They are conditioned by recent developments in modern linguistics, the specific needs of the analyzed material (such as farewell letters), as well as the requirements of law. In the expert opinion, the expert must take into account the admissibility requirements of scientific evidence, but also present the adopted methodology and the data analysis in a clear, precise, and professional manner, so as to make sure that lawyers are able to perform further procedural decisions.

Dépasser la frontière. La traduction des realia dans la version française de « România pitorească » d’Alexandru Vlahuță

Author(s): Mathieu Mokhtari / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

This paper deals with the translation of cultural references in Alexandru Vlahuta’s book “România pitorească”. Indeed, this work is full of culture-specific items that require special attention and appropriate translation strategies to preserve all the linguistic savor of the source text. This translation, carried out by Margarita Miller-Verghy – one of the few Romanian women translators –, will be analyzed in order to study the difficulties raised by the translation of those realia and the solutions provided. In the same way, we will show to what extent the cultural boundaries are permeable.

Les frontières de l'humour : comment les franchir pour obtenir le même effet dans la version traduite ?

Les frontières de l'humour : comment les franchir pour obtenir le même effet dans la version traduite ?

Author(s): Anda-Irina Radulescu / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

Using the particular case of the translation of Frédéric Dard's novel « Les morues se dessalent » into Romanian, we try to see how the translator Marie-Jeanne Vasiloiu has managed to overcome the obstacles of transferring this author’s humor into Romanian, as he played on and with language, invented, distorted and renewed the French language, and thus rendered the thriller a playful form. She managed to play his game and found inspired translation solutions although this writer is not easily exportable, even when the languages are close and have a common origin, such as French and Romanian.

Author(s): Georgiana I. Badea,Lucia Botnari,Alexandra Emciuc,Bianca Jianu,Imola Nagy,Oana Miruna Vlad / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

In this article, we briefly present the results of a multifaceted investigation of the book « Ce que le jour doit à la nuit ». We examine the effects produced on the novel by the transgression of multiple frontiers: identity, geographic, inter-linguistic, translation, semiotic, etc. These are frontiers that both the writer, Yasmina Khadra, and her novel transgress. A necessary look at the circumstances in which the book was created will allow us to survey the types of frontier transgression: of the self, of the civilian and artistic identity, in order to concentrate on the crossing of inter-linguistic frontiers (the translation into Romanian of the novel « Ce que le jour doit à la nuit » in this case), semiotic (its cinema adaptation and its subtitles).

Traductrices, traducteurs : sommes-nous une frontière ? Sommes-nous une membrane ?

Traductrices, traducteurs : sommes-nous une frontière ? Sommes-nous une membrane ?

Author(s): Fabio Regattin / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

The conceptual metaphor that sees translation as “border crossing” is so widespread that nowadays it hardly appears as a metaphor: it has become a commonsensical notion. Our contribution tries to question it by exploring a number of interdisciplinary approaches, which draw parallels – more or less metaphorical ones – between culture and biology. We will analyze, within these different approaches, the notion of border/limit, in order to show an alternative that seems more apt to capture the complexity of translation – the notion of membrane.

Les erreurs de traduction dans la confection des dictionnaires bilingues : le cas des patronymes issus du groupe Bantu B40

Les erreurs de traduction dans la confection des dictionnaires bilingues : le cas des patronymes issus du groupe Bantu B40

Author(s): Rodrigue Bigoundou / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

The development of bilingual dictionaries is a very complex activity that highlights three areas of expertise: lexicography, terminology and translation. This category of dictionaries requires command of the general language and more. An in-depth knowledge of the terms (surnames) is, within the field of terminology, a real link between lexicography and translation. A lexicographic only analysis can cause translation errors in the construction of this tool. That is why synergy between these three levels of competence remains a prerequisite. Translation is therefore a necessity for the development of bilingual dictionaries.
