Ryzyko uzależnienia młodzieży szkolnej od narkotyków. Strategie profilaktyczne i interwencyjne podejmowane w środowisku lokalnym

The book addresses an issue of drug abuse, which is becoming a growing social problem in Poland. The socio-economic and political changes in recent years have increased the number of factors detrimental to children and youth. As a result of this, increasingly more young people turn to psychoactive substances. What is particularly alarming is the increasingly younger age of children who begin to use a substance. Hence, the following book is addressed mainly to teachers/educators/parents with an aim to provide them with indispensable knowledge to help them protect children and youth from the hazards and consequences of drug abuse. This monograph presents the latest trends in addiction prophylaxis and interventional strategies to be employed in the event of hazards to life and health with persons under the influence. It also prompts for reflection on the quality, adequacy and efficacy of the prophylactic actions undertaken by specialists. Drug addiction inflicts irreparable harm in every sphere of human life. Its enormous social costs make the intensification of actions aimed to curb substance abuse an urgent social need. As shown by the reports from the NIK (Supreme Chamber of Control), actions were initiated in Poland to create a comprehensive drug abuse profylaxis system for school children and youth at all levels of education. These encompass mainly designing projects to prevent drug abuse at particular administrative levels (including schools) and assigning specific tasks to appropriate authorities, institutions and entities. However, the so far implemented actions have not produced sufficient prophylaxes, and the quality of actions undertaken within the framework of these projects turned out to be inadequate to the scale and significance of the problem. The book consists of three chapters. Chapter one discusses the issues relevant to drug abuse including the causes, ways of prevention and strategies of intervention. It also presents the conception of assimilative prophylaxis, which is a new approach towards work with youth at risk of drug addiction. Chapter two presents the methodological premises for author’s own research, which was conducted according to clearly defined procedures and research strategy. It also analyses the results of studies on premises of Centrum Interwencji Kryzysowej i Przeciwdziałania Uzależnieniom (Centre for Crisis Intervention and Addictions Prevention) in Bytom in 2014. They encompass an analysis of survey data and data obtained from interviews with the addicted persons treated in the above mentioned institution. Chapter three proposes scenarios for classes within the framework of the author’s own project of therapeutic actions based on the conclusions of research and founded in assimilative prophylaxis. This project was implemented in Katolicki Ośrodek Rehabilitacyjno-Wychowawczy „Dom Nadziei” (Catholic Rehabilitation-Education Centre „House of Hope”) in Bytom on a stationary round-the-clock ward for therapy and rehabilitation of youth.

Dopiero wnikliwa analiza pozwala odróżnić pracoholizm od nadmiernego obciążania się pracą. Książka składa się z dwóch części. W pierwszej omówiono zjawisko nadmiernego obciążania się pracą, w drugiej przedstawiono różne narzędzia badania pracoholizmu oraz przebieg i wyniki badań nad własnym kwestionariuszem, w tym osobowościowe i temperamentalne czynniki wpływające na nadmierne obciążanie się pracą. W załączniku zawarto arkusz pytań własnego kwestionariusza KONOP wraz z normami opracowanymi dla grup zróżnicowanych ze względu na płeć, wykształcenie i wiek.

Mamy z nim do czynienia wtedy, gdy podmiot aktywnie przetwarza informacje, koncentruje uwagę, podejmuje złożone decyzje, czy stara się zapamiętać jak najwięcej docierających doń informacji. Gruntowna znajomość klasycznie rozumianej psychologii poznawczej z jednej strony i psychologii społecznej – z drugiej, czyni go prawdziwym ekspertem w obszarze social cognition. Potrafi on bowiem „odróżnić ziarno od plew”. W recenzowanej książce rozprawia się w sposób mistrzowski z funkcjonującymi w nauce pustymi pojęciami, które niestety stały się powszechnie używanymi wytrychami do pozornego wyjaśniania pewnych prawidłowości z zakresu psychologii społecznej (nie zaś: kluczami do rzeczywistego zrozumienia zjawisk społecznych). (...) Osobną kwestią jest sposób, w jaki Autor poradził sobie z prezentacją trudnego, a zarazem bardzo złożonego materiału. Albertowi Einsteinowi przypisuje się twierdzenie, że w nauce wszystko powinno być przedstawiane tak prosto, jak to możliwe, ale … nie prościej. Uważam, że Sławomirowi Śpiewakowi udało się to (…) po prostu nadzwyczajnie.

Bycie z chorobą. Przystosowanie do wybranych chorób somatycznych z perspektywy psychologii pozytywnej i koncepcji poznawczych

The publication concerns the adaptation of patients to selected chronic somatic diseases, such as diabetes, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and chronic kidney disease. The author distinguishes three groups of variables constituting the process of adaptation to the disease, taking into account its conditions and the final effect: explanatory variables (the subjective significance of the disease for the patient, knowledge about the disease), mediative processes (mediators: the sense of life, coping strategies, benefits associated with the disease; and moderators: the type of disease, its duration) and explained variables (acceptance of the disease and a life with it, mental health, emotional balance, life satisfaction). Adaptation understood as a process and adjustment as an effect of this process have been analyzed from the perspective of positive psychology, emphasizing the strengths of the diseased person, and cognitive psychology, showing the importance of cognitive processes in understanding and adapting to the disease and its related discomforts and restrictions.

The book entitled "Socially maladapted behavior of children and adolescents" stemmed from the author's desire to present in one place the most indicative forms of socially maladapted behavior of children and youth, and present them as they occur in certain stages of growing up. We have supported all forms of socially maladapted behavior with numerous examples and newspaper articles in order to present this social problem as objectively as possible. The content of this book is actually an introduction to the field of social pedagogy. Although we have dealt with numerous forms of socially maladapted behavior, we have focused on socially maladapted behavior of preschool children, peer violence, electronic violence (cyberbulling), and juvenile delinquency. These four forms of inappropriate behavior are certainly the most risky and the most recognizable in the media, in this time we live in. Considering numerous classifications of behavioral disorders, there would certainly be some criticism from the scientific aspect, due to the choice of these topics, but from the aspect of social pedagogy and its subject of study, we believe that these topics are the burning problem of our society when it comes to socialization and healthy growth. We believe that it is especially important to present and analyze these deviant phenomena at children and young people in one place, in order to actualize behavioral disorders and see the consequences they cause. For preschool children, it is evident that there are numerous indicators that indicate socially maladapted behavior of children at that early age. Therefore, it is very important to identify such behavior by preschool children and provide adequate professional assistance, so as not to lead to more serious consequences and disorders in the later development of personality and social behavior.

Wrażliwe struny osobowości w związkach romantycznych

The aim of the book is to establish the role of temperamental sensitivity to pleasant and unpleasant stimuli in understanding the dynamics of responding to transgressions in romantic relationships. Using the neuropsychological reinforcement sensitivity theory of personality, there have been shown mechanisms of constructive and destructive reaction in the event of a breach of norms regulating mutual exchange by an intimate relationship partner. The analyses have demonstrated that sensitivity to negative stimuli and to motivational conflicts are the risk factors of avoidance and neglect of a romantic partner, and also revealed the mechanisms of this risk (e.g. difficulties in emotional regulation, reduced self-esteem and sensitivity to rewards and punishments in a romantic relationship).

Rodzina jako wartość. Analiza psychologiczna wartości rodzinnych

The family is at the heart of any society. An integral dimension of the family is community, the source and effect of which is family support that guarantees satisfaction of many needs necessary for health. The family is a life goal, a striving, a desire due to the specific qualities that define it. The natural and most important need for every human being is to be in a family and have a family. The monograph provides family criteria, which include new forms of living together that authorize the identification of a group of people as a family. The characteristics of four unchanging values of the family - cultural, functional, structural and pro-health - are presented. A model was proposed to represent the family as family value and values, and the effect of family values was indicated. On the other hand, my own research concerned family values. 400 adults participated in the study. The following research tools were used: Familism Scale, Sense of Stress Questionnaire, Adult Siblings Questionnaire, Depression Measurement Questionnaire, Scales Measuring Agency and Communion, Short Scale of Materialism and a questionnaire. The analysis of the results was included in three operational models, which included: assessment of the differentiation in terms of the dimensions of family values depending on the selected socio-demographic variables; psychological correlates of dimensions of family values; the moderating role of the dimensions of family values in relation to the relationship between the dimensions of the interpersonal relationship and experiencing stress and depression. The presented psychological perspective of family values turned out to be significant for the proper functioning of a human being, as well as his environment.

Estetyka sprawczości w grach wideo

The aim of this book is to indicate and characterize the relationship between the phenomenon of agency and the aesthetics of the video game medium. The author analyzes the properties of interactive texts that allow their users to feel the pleasure of influencing the virtual spaces or the course of events taking place within them. Therefore, the book has been divided into two parts: theoretical, which organizes the existing definitions and types of agency typical for video games, and analytical, that presents a layered model of agency. Author presents four levels that organize player experience: simulation, narration, rules, and meta-agency, which gathers numerous activities beyond gameplay. The following chapters explore issues such as: reception and transformation of the gameplay aesthetics, user experience and emotions, differentiation of player’s agency, interface functions, agency mechanics, and agential dissonance. The book also contains extensive analyzes of three high-budget mainstream games: “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” (Nintendo, 2017), “Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” (CD Projekt RED, 2015) with “Blood and wine” expansion (CD Projekt RED, 2016) and “Grand Theft Auto V” (RockStar Games, 2013).

Adolescence is an important transitional period during which young people expand their relationship networks. Adolescents make more friends than in all the preceding developmental stages. They also begin to enter into romantic relationships, which is new uncharted territory for them. This developmental task is very important for them, and it is one that needs to be successfully tackled. It is, however, obvious that this task challenges adolescents with a myriad of problems and risks, and not everyone easily manages this stage of life well. Dynamic changes in adolescents’ social networks have to be observed holistically. Adolescents’ relationships with adults and peers, their influence on each other and how they organise themselves into new networks and systems need to be examined closely. Adolescence is also an important period for the development of mental resilience, well-being, and of the capability to positively experience things or, simply put, of emotional happiness. We are trying to understand how adolescents’ social relationships expand and change during this crucial period, and how their relationships are potentially linked to emotional happiness. The aim of the longitudinal project The development of adolescent relationships: Using an attachment theory perspective, a dynamic systems approach, and a time-series method, the results of which form the most substantial part of this book, was to comprehend how adolescents’ social relationships change in their teen years, and how relationships, their forms and quality relate to young peoples’ feelings of happiness and satisfaction. Along with the main objective, which was to follow the changes in the hierarchy of attachment figures for 11 and 18 year-old adolescents, we also attempted to identify other important factors in families with adolescents which affect their mental adaptation and development. This monograph describes the changes occurring in adolescence in the organisation of persons close to adolescents. Theoretical concepts and history of the approaches to social relationships in adolescence are described in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 is devoted to adolescents’ close relationships and their organisation as seen through the perspective of attachment theory. Chapter 3 analyses how adolescents perceive interparental conflict and Chapter 4 concerns parental cooperation in upbringing. We were also interested in the consequences of an adolescent prematurely taking over an adult role in the family, which we addressed in Chapter 5. The final chapter, 6 of the monograph focuses on adolescents’ relationships with their teachers and tries to find out whether a teacher can be an attachment figure for adolescents. The book summarises the results previously published in journals, and presents currently unpublished findings from our project’s data.
