Počiatky motoristického športu v Bratislave a Košiciach v rokoch 1921 – 1933

Author(s): Mikuláš Jančura / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 2/2014

The tradition of motor sport in Slovakia is not rooted so deeply as in the Czech lands, or west European states, where it was developed since the turn of 19th and 20th century. This expensive and marginal activity at the beginning started to grow through the organized motoring associations, which were based in Slovakia during the 1920s and 1930s. In Slovakia didn’t exist stable speedway in this period and the races were organized on public roads, what required the cooperation of the districts’ structures and security forces. This kind of races were more attractive and it made them accessible to a wider circle of audience. From the slowly beginnings in the first half of the 1920s a solid base of sports motoring has been formed, subsequently extended its activities range from small club trips to events such as: Competition reliability,„Star-driving“, Speed races or Competition of elegance. This positive trend, however, was temporarily dampened by the impact of the global economic crisis, which also closed the pioneering stage of development of motor sport in Slovakia. This paper aims to capture the character of a relatively dynamic growth of modern sport activity in its pioneering stage in Slovakia.

Zmusza je to do podjęcia dodatkowego wysiłku w państwie imigracji, aby bezpośrednią opiekę osobistą zastąpić substytutem w postaci wsparcia finansowego.

Injecting Drug Users In Bulgaria. Profile and Risks

Author(s): Tihomir Bezlov,Cas Barendregt / Language(s): English

Despite the epidemic rate of growing use of psychoactive substances after 1990, the public continues to know too little about the drug users, as well as about the risks related to them. In the summer of 2003 four Bulgarian non-government organizations – Initiative for Health Foundation - Sofia, Dose of Love Association - Bourgas, Panacea Foundation - Plovdiv, and Pleven 21 Century Foundation in cooperation with the Addiction Research Institute IVO - Rotterdam succeeded in conducting a survey requiring special efforts. They implemented an outreach approach to the IDUs providing needles and syringes for exchange, as well as health services. As a result from this experience the programmes were able to secure a unique possibility to interview a great number of not easily approachable persons (from hidden and encapsulated communities) who were to provide answers to questions that are not easy to talk about.

Heroin Users in Bulgaria One Year After Outlawing The Dose for "Personal Use". Law Changes and New Risks

Author(s): Tihomir Bezlov / Language(s): English

The report reveals the place of heroine use in Bulgaria and its development since the amendment to the Penal Code repealing Paragraph 3 of Art 354a and its provision. The revision gained public popularity as „the single dose law”. It renders criminal every drug substance possession, regardless of the type or quantity of the substance, or whether the individual in possession of the dose is dependent or not. Under the new regulation, the drug wholesalers, the small drug dealers, and those just using, not trading in drugs, are treated equally harshly. The change was carried out, despite keen objections on the part of experts and civil society organizations that it might lead to severe and unpredictable consequences. The research, however, revealed that the ban on the „single dose”, and its negative implications, are only part of a larger nationwide problem caused not only by the legislative framework, but also by the inadequate institutional response. Author of the publication is Mr. Tihomir Bezlov, researcher from Center for the Study of democracy.

Publiczna pomoc mieszkaniowa a demarginalizacja społeczna ludności ubogiej

Author(s): Andrzej Przymeński,Monika Oliwa-Ciesielska / Language(s): Polish

Mid-Level Management Style in Healthcare

Mid-Level Management Style in Healthcare

Author(s): Jamion Lewis,Kruti Lehenbauer / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The purpose of this paper is to recommend a quantitative model based on the outcomes from a comprehensive literature review of multiple studies to identify the most effective leadership style among mid-level managers in a healthcare setting. This literature review includes theories of leadership and discusses the usual leadership methods associated with mid-level managers. This study addresses the effectiveness of transactional, transformational, and passive leadership styles of middle level managers in healthcare organizations. The proposed quantitative non-experimental correlational study would examine the statistical relationships between the independent variables of three leadership styles (transformational, transactional, and passive leadership) and the dependent variable of leadership effectiveness among mid-level managers in the healthcare industry. This literature analysis proposes how to clearly define the variables transformational leadership, transactional leadership, passive leadership, and leader effectiveness which would eventually make it possible to quantify and measure them.

Adoption History. From Ancient Societies to Contemporary Societies

Adoption History. From Ancient Societies to Contemporary Societies

Author(s): Silvia Timofti / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

From the earliest times, the religious factor has said its word on several social systems. The social factor has been of great importance and relevance to the social construction of the communities as well as to the regulation of the various institutions I have chosen the ones that represent the interests of society. Among these institution is adoption, being one of the oldest law institutions. Adoption is a social phenomenon that has undergone changes that have been inevitable and a breakthrough in the turn of the century. This form of social protection of children, adoption, played a particularly important role in antiquity especially in the institutions of the Jews, the Assyrians, the Greeks, the Indians and the Romans, because the adopted person was perceived as the one to represent the perpetuation of the religious and political interests of the people, after the persons who approached the children died.

I Know What Iʼm Doing: Experiences of Women who Use Methamphetamine

Author(s): Magda Frišaufová / Language(s): English

Women drug users have been in the focus of social science research for several decades. Quite a lot has been written about their specific situation, especially concerning their unequal gender position, higher stigmatization, or harder access to treatment or social services. On the other hand, not much attention has been given to their strategies of resistance, or dealing with problems they encounter in their everyday lives. In this book, the author provides a different view on their living situations. Through the narrative analysis of qualitative interviews and focus groups with seven women who have experience with long-term methamphetamine use, the author explores not only the challenges that they face, but also the strengths and agency they use to influence and take control of their lives, and negotiate their needs and interests with the world around them.

Investigarea transparenţei şi efi cienţei economice a utilizării fondurilor Companiei Naţionale de Asigurări în Medicină

Author(s): Alex Oprunenco,Ana Popa,Evelina Gherghelegiu / Language(s): Romanian

The Republic of Moldova ranks unfavorably in most of the indicators that measure the health status of the population, which denotes both the existence of some deficiencies in the health care system in the Republic of Moldova, as well as the relatively increased financing needs of this system. Moreover, the share of health expenditures in GDP is the highest in Moldova compared to the countries in the region, with public expenditures covering only half of the total expenditures. Certainly, such a high share of health expenditures in GDP, and especially of private expenditures, can reflect both the very high financing needs and the inefficiency of public expenditures. Our country is facing serious problems in the functioning of the health protection system. This has negative implications for the health of the population, the quality of human capital and the confidence of citizens towards the future of this country. Consequently, the inclinations for emigration are intensifying, and corruption in the health system is becoming more and more rampant.

Sociální práce se seniory v kontextu kritické gerontologie

Author(s): Kateřina Kubalčíková,Jana Havlíková,Olga Hubíková,Zdeňka Dohnalová / Language(s): Czech

This publication is a contribution to the debate on the possibilities to ensure the provision of social work services to older people in the context of demographic ageing of the Czech population. In the first part we discuss the functional potential and its assessment as a tool to adequately set the level of support for people whose self-sufficiency is limited. The problem of reduced self-sufficiency is regarded from the perspective of critical gerontology. The second part includes chapters dealing with practical possibilities to reduce the risks of socially constructed dependency, particularly the possibility for older people to remain in their usual environment. We will tackle the questions of support for home carers, of technological innovations and their significance for home care and of dying in the home environment. In the last part we discuss the potential of social work to help older people remain in their normal environment.

Koprodukcja usług społecznych źródłem osobistej i społecznej produktywności osób starszych. Studium socjologiczne na przykładzie beneficjentów Programu Wieloletniego „Senior+"

Author(s): Grzegorz Gawron / Language(s): Polish

The presented volume is the author’s proposal of a sociological description of the phenomenon of co-production of social services as a source of personal and social productivity of older people. The main conceptual axis of the study, which defines its cognitive goal, is an attempt to link the idea of co-production of social services with the productivity of older people, indicating the potential relations occurring between these phenomena. According to the author’s knowledge, both in Poland and abroad, no analyses in this area have been conducted so far, not only within sociology, but also within other sciences. Therefore, the theoretical aim of the study was to describe and rank the concepts constituting the backbone and filling in the presented theoretical perspective, such as co-production, personal and social productivity of the older persons, social services, human capital and social capital. The conceptual analysis carried out resulted in the development of the author’s operational framework for the services organised and provided under the “Senior+” Multiannual Programme, showing how co-production of older people, based on the use of their human and social capital, generates their personal and social productivity. Therefore, it can be considered that the publication is a direct response to the persistent deficit of comprehensive studies in this area in the Polish scientific space.
