Summary/Abstract: Presidential transition entails the transfer of the executive power from the current president to the president-elect. Although the preparation for the presidential transition in the United States of America begins months before the presidential elections, the transition begins with the announcement of the winner of elections and ends with the presidential oath that president takes on the Inauguration Day. Throughout the history, the American presidential system has been adorned for its peaceful transfer of presidential power. This was once again confirmed after the last elections in November of 2016, when Donald Trump clinched the unexpected victory. This paper presents the history of the establishment of presidential transitions, references the features of several successful transitions, outlines legislation which regulates the process of the presidential transition, and analyzes the transfer of executive power from Obama to Trump.
