Summary/Abstract: Abstract: Current debates on the evolution of the particular discourse of cultural criticism invites a double understanding of the concept: as general characterization of the critical schools that have marked the evolution of culture in time, and as a narrower trend that emerged in Britain in the fifties, crossed the Atlantic and came to be known as Cultural Studies.
