Summary/Abstract: Arguing that Serbian society is an asymmetrical, federal and non-integrated society, author of this paper assess possible institutional set-ups for such a society that could achieve the long-run equilibrium between social structures and political institutions. Institution building, overcoming nation building or multiculturalism only as a response to nation building, is of major concern for Serbia. Regional development will surely be positive for achievement of cohesion of a society, but it has to be accompanied by an overall viable integration policy, as politics of redistribution and politics of recognition are not inherently incompatible.
