Summary/Abstract: The article deals with translatology description of diplomatic interpreting within the context of evaluating the factors of communication situation in which it is mostly performed. Multi-components analysis revealed that consecutive interpreting and chuchotage are the most often used forms when analysed from applied transfer technique point of view. With respect to the social demand, it means interpretation mainly used in official diplomatic events – state visits, official diplomatic visits and business trips characterised by formality and austerity features with protocol requirements. Communicating parties are specific as well – top political and diplomatic representatives of states bearing features like importance, exceptionality, authority, erudition and knowledgeability in many topics, untouchability, privileges and sometimes also tactlessness, ignorance or despotism. Often, the aim of interpreted communication is expressed implicitly which makes the translation activity and selection of interpretation strategies much complicated. The style of diplomatic communications is often not only precise but also ceremonial while its content is often thoroughly formulated in advance.
