Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the first years of the communist dictatorship as reflected in the Congregation Chronicle of the Sisters of Mercy of St. Charles Borromeo, placing the topic in the context of the relationship between the state and the church in the mid-20th century and in the context of the nuns’ work in health and social institutions. It also investigates the circumstances in which the chronicle was created within the religious community as a unique historiographical account.
